2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible drops its top
Another exciting BMW model to launch early next year is the next generation BMW 6 Series. For the first time since the test mule hit the road, the Convertible variant of the new 6er has been spotted with its top down.
Initial reports were claiming a hardtop 6 Series Cabrio, but based on our latest inside information and spy photos, the new 6 Series will continue using a soft top.
The car will represent an emotional statement from BMW, following the steps of the new Z4 Roadster, an emotional car that connects the driver to the vehicle. The next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. The current 6 Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, is rumored to be a “super sleek” vehicle.
The 2012 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look. The new 2012 BMW 6 Series will not be a twin-brother to the highly acclaimed and much missed CS Concept, but some design cues from the canceled CS Concept and the recently unveiled Gran Coupe made their way into the final design.
The corona ring headlights becomes a common trait in new BMWs and the 2012 6er makes no exception. The taillights will also continue to sport an L-shape and LEDs.
The interior design has also been re-drawn from ground up and incorporates a mixed design style between the Z4 Roadster and the luxurious 5 Series.
The 2012 BMW 6 Series is rumored to be unveiled later this year at the Paris Motor Show and possibly a U.S. unveiling in L.A.

Spy Photos: 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible with less camouflage
Courtesy of MotorAuthority, we are bringing you a spy photo of the new 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible sporting less camouflage than ever seen before. The breaking news last week revolved around the North American market receiving a six-cylinder engine in their 6 Series line-up, but today, we were able to confirm that the the first U.S. 2011 6 Series model will debut in March of next year, and the first model available will indeed be the BMW 650i Convertible.
In July 2011, the 650 Coupe will follow. Later in September of 2011, the BMW 640 Coupe and Convertible will launch, along with the xDrive variant of the 650.
The contradictory reports around the 6 Series top variants continue. First reports were claiming a hardtop 6 Series Cabrio, but based on our latest inside information and spy photos, we stated that the new 6 Series will continue using a soft top.
Today, a new rumor launched by the same BMW insider Scott27, mentions the hardtop as being offered as an option to the new 6 Series Convertible. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm these latest allegations and ourselves are bit reluctant to acknowledge them as being valid. The development, testing and production costs of two variants of the 6 Series Convertible would be quite high for BMW and we certainly don’t see a valid business decision behind the alleged decision.
As seen in the spy photo above, the 2012 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation.
The design lines return to the super sleek look and we expect to see plenty of concave and convex design lines hidden underneath the camo, lines that will enhance the luxurious sporty look of the new 6er.
Even though still hidden with tape, the photos reveal the corona ring headlights as seen in other BMW models, a common gene in new BMWs.
The 2012 BMW 6 Series is rumored to be unveiled later this year at the Paris Motor Show and possibly a U.S. unveiling in L.A.
As always, stay tuned for further updates!

BMW 6 Series Convertible caught less disguised on Nurburgring
Spies are snapping away at the upcoming BMW 6 Series Convertible. Recently it was spied with less camouflage at the rear end, showing off a brake light and a larger BMW emblem. Then last week they caught it with its canvass cap off.
Now we have the latest pictures of the company's flagship two-door honing its handling skills around the Nürburgring. Thank goodness because we can see the wheels and how good they look. The bodywork is also less covered.
BMW will do the usual and give the 6 Series, both the Coupe and Convertible, a similar engine range to the 5 Series. That includes a turbocharged 3.0-litre with 225kW (302 bhp/ 306 PS), a 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 pushing 300 kW (402 bhp / 408 PS) and an M6 fitted with a twin turbo V8. The M6 will probably be good for well over 400 kW (536 bhp / 544 PS) and a 0 - 100km/h time of under 4.5 seconds. An 8-speed automatic transmission will be fitted to work with fuel-saving systems like start/stop and brake regeneration.
The all-new BMW 6 Series Convertible goes on sale in 2011.
