    2012 BMW 6 Series Thread

The renderings guessing game continues with some new computer generated images of the upcoming, redesigned, 2012 BMW 6 Series. GermanCarForum member Andy Valencia illustrates the next 6 Series based on the recent spy photos and while the final result may vastly vary, it is still quite interesting to see different variations of one of the sportiest BMWs ever built.

Moving away from the CS Concept influenced renderings we have seen so far, these new images take some cues from another sporty and highly praised BMW, the new E89 Z4.

According to previous reports and inside sources, the next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. The current 6 Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, is rumored to be a “super sleek” vehicle, as seen in these latest spy shots as well.

The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look.

Despite some initial reports on a hardtop 6er, trustworthy sources mention the softop as remaining the only offering for the convertible.

While not officially confirmed, sources around the Munich-based automaker mention a November revealing of the new BMW 6 Series.

Here are more variations of the same rendering.

Our close friends Jon Sibal puts his skills to use one again and creates a new 2012 BMW 6 Series rendering for the U.S. magazine, LeftLaneNews. Despite some of the initial rumors, the new 2012 BMW 6 Series will not be a twin-brother to the highly acclaimed and much missed CS Concept. Most of the design cues from CS will make their way into the 6 Series GT, a new model joining the family.
LeftLaneNews reports that the new 6er will feature a V10 M engine, but our source contradict the statement. The high-end car will continue to use the V8 twin-turbo engine seen in other BMW models, while the M6 variant will most likely take on a modified powerplant unit from X5M/X6M.
This new rendering shows BMW’s likely application of crisp new lines across the hood, along with a matching crease down the side profile. These new lines follow the same design language found on the recently revealed 5-Series sedan and to be seen on future bimmers as well.

The next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. The current 6 Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, is rumored to be a “super sleek” vehicle, as seen in these latest spy shots as well.
The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation and as illustrated here as well, it will sport more aggressive lines and a muscular look.
The interior design has also been re-drawn from ground up and it is being said to reflect some of the design cues seen in the Z4 Roadster, so expect a very driver oriented dashboard and plenty of sporty elements.
Engine wise, the new 6 Series will feature a combination of diesel and petrol offerings. The high-end diesel model will be the 640d, powered by the N57 turbocharged straight-6 common rail diesel engine outputting 306 horsepower.
The 650i will be the highest offering powered by the 4.4 liter V8 Twin-turbo engine.

            2011 BMW 6 Series Coupe rendered….again

Another day and a new rendering of the next generation BMW 6 Series Coupe. The silly rendering game started months back, but latest iterations of these computer generated images are starting to impress us even more. While the key to the actual design lines remain in the hands of the BMW folks in Munich, it is still interesting to see what the community and graphic artists portray the 6er to be.

As mentioned several times before, the new 6 Series is looking to regain its status as an iconic car in the BMW line-up and not only. The new super sleek sports car will once again sit at the top of BMW’s offerings and will bring more fire to the competition.

While the rendering below might be on the right track, there are still plenty of elements from the CS Concept left in it. Certainly we enjoy this, but the actual product might take a different route. Based on the last spy photos the headlights design seem to be on the right track, following the same lines as the newly revealed BMW models.

According to reports, the front-grille dimensions will increase, both in height and width, a trend that we have also seen recently from BMW. A more muscular look is much expected and needed, so shorter overhangs and wider fender flares will give the new 6er that aggressive look we crave for.

As we approach the unveiling date (Fall 2010), expect to see more revealing photos and more information “leaked” by BMW.

Update: Here is another approach by a different artist, this time illustrating the Convertible model.

Spy Photos: 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible with soft top

After months of confusion and conflicting reports, we have recently learned from trustworthy sources that the next generation BMW 6 Series Convertible will continue to be offered with a soft top, despite initial rumors of a hardtop variant using the same technology as in the popular 3 Series Cabrio.

The next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. The current 6 Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, is rumored to be a “super sleek” vehicle, as seen in these latest spy shots as well.

A preview of what is hidden underneath the camouflage was revealed two weeks ago when BMW displayed their latest concept at the Beijing Motor Show: BMW Gran Coupe.

According to sources close to the brand, the 2012 6 Series will import some design cues from this latest concept which in its turn is showcasing some design lines from the canceled CS Concept.

The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline. The side design outlines a more muscular look emphasized by the imposing front-fascia.

Moving at the rear-end, the profile brings back the same CS Concept memories, mostly around the rear quarter. The bootlid is integrated into the body and it curves around the rear quarter.

The first model to be unveiled will be the 6 Series Convertible later this fall, followed shortly by the Coupe.
