Ahh well its worth a try....

The relay seems to have drained every single ampere out of the battery!!... I am assuming the pump could build up the require pressure for the SMG system to function.

n the relay kept sending in current after the car was shut off to make sure the pump pressure reached 80bar (which it never did I assume) ....

So I am looking at shelling out for a new pump, relay and battery. hmmmmm SIGH!!

Reson why the car wouldn't start is safety measures.
Most stick shift cars nowadays can't be started unless you depress the clutch fully . Same with SMG, if the clutch is not dis-engaged OR you left the car in gear and siwtched it off the day before, so if your SMG pump aint working, you start the car you going to hit the closest object infront of you really hard !!

I don't think there was a recall, for here atleast. The dude in Canada, theyve got much longer warranty over there, correct ? So, some cars might still be covered.

Battery too....car is completely dead.... dash wont even light up. if its a safety measure then dash would light up.

BTW Ayham!! ....I owe you one!... after the SMG light came on a few days back. I stopped putting the car in gear when i switch it off... made sure it was in neutral. I think that saved me quite a bit of hassle :P

Look at the bright side, a new pump should last you another 100,000+KMs.

But, do yourslef a favour.

-Weekly CHF oil level and viscosity checks, on the weekend is easiest.

-Monthly GT1 checks, or any good diagnostic tool should do .

-Yearly regular CHF oil replacements and pressure checks.

Preventive measure basically.

lol....my car has done about 64,000kms and the pump gave way!...so 100,000+ kms, hmmm we will just have to wait and see. This month I complete one year since Ive had the m3 :) I guess its a bday gift for her! :P... a very expensive one!

well folks! ive got good news! :) alhumdulillah!....

The relay was shot making the pump act weird.....so just had to get a new relay...car is back to normal fine! no whining, no whizzing....nothing! i can hear the SMG pump building pressure wen i unlock and everything seems fine!...just had to replace a 40.50dhs relay :) .....

However, im taking it easy for a couple of weeks....just to see if the fault returns or not....as of now ALHUMDULILLAH...alls fine! :D

Dude, congratulations man !! That's some great news !!

Good thinking on taking it easy, but from now on. Keep checks on a regular and close basis. And most important, preventive measures. Such as bleeding and a complete refurbish of your SMG pump before every summer. That goes to everything else in the car too !

I'm taking my baby down to X-service tomorrow to install a new relay, hopefully they'll have some in stock and I can drive out of there on the same day... wish me luck.
