well got the car back today.....havent replaced the relay yet.....the light came on again after an hour or so of driving....i think its the relay....will find out for sure after two weeks when the new one is installed.....

wen the car was driven after replacing the relay with anothers cars, it was not showing an error...

btw...any idea what the function of the relay is???

I believe it activates/deactivates the pump when selecting gears, just what relays do.

Does anyone know the location of the hydraulic pump for the SMG? is it in the engine bay?? Where is the relay located??

It's right behind the gearbox attached to it!

The pump should be in the engine bay on the drive belt assembly and relays belong where relays belong. Fuse box ?

'Should be' isn't the answer here...It's BEHIND the transmission as per the OEM diagram and looking under the skirt of our cars...

n the relay??? im having this whizzing noise coming from under my hood wen the engine is idling....its more like a whistle....it stays on for a couple of seconds after i switch off the car too....it seems to be coming from right under the air intake box

I'm not sure where the relay is on this diagram. But maybe it's your choke making the noise since it's under the intake..

hmmm...what does the choke do??? it whizzes at idle too.... btw...i found a DIY on a SMG pump change... the guys removed it from under the intake manifold!! ... http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=505775

hmmmm thats more reason for me to worry.....any idea if the pump is supposed to stay on for a few second after the car is switched off??
