SMG telltale light on :(

Guys,

The SMG telltale light just came on during my drive home....no hard driving at all....the car seems absolutely fine though....no difference in shifting...auto and manual both working fine...

switched car on and off but still the light wouldnt go :(

Any idea what could be the reason??

How long did you leave it off before turning the ignition on?

Take it from below working your way up. Check the CHF oil level/viscousity first tomorrow morning when it's cool. If these check out fine, hook it up to the GT1 at X Service. Could be a hot clutch, which most of the time turns out to be just that. :)

could be a hot clutch as doctor ayham said... i will change the smg relay regardless of the problem though if i were you and take it to X asap

I've been having the same problem sometimes... For the time being I've stopped using automatic and I've turned the gear ratio down to 3 bars.

Some things I've noticed that might cause my telltale light to come on (at least what I've noticed on mine :) :
1. If I leave the car on for a while without moving it... chances are a little higher on the light coming on... which is what happened yesterday.

2. putting in automatic

In either case it's definitely worth paying X-service a visit... the GT1 will give u the full diagnostics. I've also ordered the relay so it'll be worth checking it out

thanks guys....the telltale sign is still on....after leaving it over night...shifting is absolutely fine tho....manual and auto mode...all ok :)

I was planning to take it to Tony Edwards.... do they have the GT1 too??

The relay costs 75 dirhams... dude X service is way better than Tony Edwards... I’ll head there if I where you. I actually dropped my X5 yesterday for a GT1 diagnosis yesterday 11:00PM… no one can match their prices so I would strongly recommend them.

btw Wazif .... it happened once with my car but the weather was killing. It was 52 Celsius outside and i was stuck in traffic, my car's temp was abit above half and then my SMG light went one ... I drove at highspeeds above 100km with low RPMs to cool the car down n let it suck more air, n then i stopped at my house after like 30 min n turned the car off n switched it back on and the light went ...

I took my car to X-Service and they said everything is okay, so i ordered my Relay which has never came yet !!!! and i'm still waiting for it to come ..... never had the problem since then !!

CHF is the SMG pump oil, you can see the reservoir beneath the hood close to the firewall on the driver side....Open it and take a look-see

i dropped the X5 11:00 PM and threw the key inside a box that is attached to the outer wall of the facility.

it makes it easier to drop it there and the next day they will call you and tell what's wrong with it.

I’ve serviced my smg pump 2 months ago in order to avoid such mishaps during the hot summer... Done a SMG bleeding and reprogramming to give it a fresh a start before the heat toughens on her. I just want a newer relay to complete the pampering lol
