im planning on organizing proper automotive photography workshops at YAS marina Circuit (given that im one of their event photographers anyway) so if it all works out (and hopefully it does for next year when the weather cools down) we can have guys get some 'industry experience' and polish up their photography skills on a whole new level.

as far as choosing a lens goes, it really does depend on how you want to start off, because lets face it lenses dont grow on trees and quality lenses sometimes cost as much as most second hand cars on the road, so for specific lenses (lets save you a few bucks here but still get you good quality equipment) this might help you out:
and intro to getting to know about lenses you guys can check out this link: http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html
Canon lenses for canon cameras:
portraits - Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II the cheapest lens you'll find EVER!! and it’s so sharp the results make me wanna cry out of joy.. not that I do because well.. *cough* that’d be unmanly and what not… great lens to start off with and keep handy with you just about all the time
I can give you a few other lenses, but this is very literally the easiest one to use and the cheapest as well.
Sports/actions shots – now this is where it gets tricky because obviously the better lens you buy the better results you’ll get but you don’t want to buy a ridiculously expensive lens and have no clue how to use it because lets face it… that’s just embarrassing. So how I’ve made it work for me over the years:
1st lens I bought – Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC – great all rounder, good zoom, pretty good value for money and the cheapest of the bunch, not great for low light, but fairly good for outdoor use
2nd lens I bought - Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM - it’s the kit lens that comes with the EOS 5D so I love it unconditionally anyway, but most definitely a great lens, performs relatively well in low light, and in spectacular ways when used outdoors. That said it has a IR (infrared) sensor so it doesn’t completely let you down in low light situations.
3rd lens Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L IS USM – what im using right now, and well you’ve seen the photos already so I don’t think I need to add more detail to it. Just like the 24-105mm is has an IR sensor so its just as good in low light scenarios.
Other potentially good lenses:
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS: Canon’s EF-S 55-250mm is an affordable telephoto zoom designed for owners of mainstream cropped-bodies; as an EF-S model, it’s not compatible with full-frame bodies. The EF-S 55-250mm picks-up where the standard 18-55mm kit lens stops, extending the equivalent coverage to a maximum of 400mm. There’s no USM focusing at this price point, but there is Image Stabilisation to iron-out the wobbles. A great telephoto zoom for those on a budget.
Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III: The EF 75-300mm III is Canon’s most affordable telephoto zoom, and as an EF model it’s also compatible with both cropped and full-frame bodies, although its low price means it’s best-suited to entry-level cameras. The lens delivers a classic telephoto range, which extends to an equivalent of 480mm on a cropped body. There’s no Image Stabilization which may make the EF-S 55-250mm preferable, but there’s no denying it’s great value.
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM: The EF 70-300mm IS USM also works on both cropped and full-frame bodies, delivering a classic telephoto range. The price may be a lot higher than the model above considering it shares a similar range, but crucially this lens features both USM for quick and quiet focusing, along with Image Stabilization to iron-out any camera-shake – an essential feature for a telephoto lens. A good option, but also consider the un-stabilized 70-200mm f4.0L at a similar price.
Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM: If you find yourself always zooming-in to the maximum focal length, why not go for a fixed lens instead? Models like the EF 200mm f2.8L II deliver superb quality and a bright f2.8 aperture at a much lower price than the 70-200mm f2.8 zoom, although note there’s no Image Stabilization on this model. There is quick and quiet USM focusing though and ‘L’ build quality. A quality option for distant portraits or close-range action if you don’t need a zoom.
landscapes – (what I’ve been using) Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM. It was the first and only super wide angle lens that I've used. And personally I don’t think I’d get a better lens for the price I’ve paid for it.
Other potentially good lenses:
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III
As far as Nikon SLR bodies and lenses go, gimme a little time I’ll write up some stuff after im done with work when the boss isn’t breathing down my neck! =P

aiezzzz!! Cannot say thank you enough, for all the advices, and the time you spared to write them ... this should be a separate Thread as Ssense mentioned, because your own reviews, and advices truly helped me with taking a choice between the 600D and the 5100D, when almost 18 reviews that I went through online could not help and give a decision (:bow:Talent:bow:)
As an Update.. I got the Canon 600D :yuhoo: 18 - 55 ISII KIT
added your favorite lens EF 50mm f/1.8 II and a sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 II Macro HSM.
I could not afford the canon 70-200 as the price for that went from 8500 to 11,000 :S
I got a good offer on these where the lady added an extra batter, 3 UV filters, 2 bags, a good tripod, blowers, cleaners, and LCD protection.
everything had a 1 year warranty (UAE), expect for the cam had 2 year, and the sigma have 3(international).
The overall price went around 7,800...
I am following your most important advice... practicing, practicing and practicing some moreeeeeee :P(started understanding the stuff..:D)
PS** that Star shot is what is getting in the hobby (hope to get some shots with the kit I have:()... I wish ill be half as good as you are one day
Again and again

Mabrook with the photo equipment!
Please note that the lens is the most important part of a camera!
People are changing their camera bodies while reusing the invested lenses.
Attached are several shots I took during some events at the Autodrome and Yas Island, using Canon camera and lenses
As "Fresh Meat" I don't know yet how to upload pictures in the forum thread instead of attaching them.Last edited by beemer30csi; 22-06-2011, 01:19 AM.
