I just fell victim to a scam.

Ok so this was the process;

1. Receive rejection letter from the bank, when you try to process the cheque. (Done)
2. Take the rejection letter to the police (Done)
3. Police provide you with a letter to take to any branch of the Account Holder's Bank. This requests for the bank to hand over documents (Passport Details etc) of the account holder. (Done).
4. You then take the above documents, original cheque, photocopies of your own Passport / Visa / ID etc to the police. (Done)
5. Police open a case (Done - yesterday)
6. Police will then try and locate the individual. No timelimes have been given...

Will update all when I find out more.

i hope this is being looked at as a serious matter and not just yes we will try... Good luck and please keep us posted.
