are you reffering to a rattle or a grind or a whine???

it makes a difference to know.

so basically if the car is not moving there is no noise?

They told me about the prob.
In my opinion, it’s not the gear @all the noise like tak tak tak tak and it’s in all speeds, accelerating or breaking... same!!
If the diff u’ll hear the noise when u accelerate or on turns

So, am 99% sure it’s the drive shaft

noise comes when u start moving.....
        from 1-5 there is noise
if moving and the gear is N still the same noise
the shifting is smooth and fine
clutch kick or hold or any thing doesnt make any differance

        i think now its clear!!

If it's while moving, be it in gear or not then it's got to do with the drive shaft or the drive shaft center bearing. Is there a bump noise if you accelerate from standstill in frist ?If so, it's either the center bearing, guibo(flex disc) or gearbox mounts.

Plus, what oil did you use ? Some MANUAL BMW gearboxes use ATFII fluid only not MT fluid, be careful on that one! There's an orange sticker on the side of the gearbox as well.

Central bearing and shaft in E30 will give very big vibration and he will get scared after 100Km, It's not gear it's I think the diff
i had the same issue years ago
and when i bought my car it was having shaft issues and center bearing, there was vibration on acceleration but if I press the clutch it will go
