Dubai: A fire broke out at the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm Jumeirah on Tuesday, Dubai Police and the hotel said.
Dubai Police confirmed the fire broke out in the hotel’s lobby as labourers were carrying out maintenance work. No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.
Brigadier Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Deputy Director of Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for Preventative Security told Gulf News the fire was contained at approximately 10.15am.
“Initial investigations suggest the fire might have broken out as workers were carrying out welding activities or because of some electrical problem. Final conclusions will only be made after we receive all of the necessary reports,” Mahdi said.
Dubai's civil defence confirmed that they received a call about the fire at 7.02am on Tuesday morning.
The hotel released a statement earlier to confirm the fire. No one was injured in the incident and all on-site staff were evacuated immediately, it said.
The long-awaited Atlantis Hotel is due to open to public on September 24.
