Abu Dhabi: Sellers of used vehicles involved in accidents cannot cheat prospective buyers by falsely claiming that they are ‘accident-free'. The truth will now be revealed by a simple online search using the vehicle's chassis number.
Prospective buyers of a used vehicle registered in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain can know its history of accidents online, thanks to a new website launched by the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Upon feeding in the vehicle's chassis number, the traffic electronic services website of the MoI will provide all details related to accidents involving that vehicle anywhere in the country.
It will give an up-to-date history of accidents from the date of registration of the vehicle. This website will also provide other information a prospective buyer wants to know, such as vehicle registration and status of plate reservation, a senior official of Abu Dhabi Police told Gulf News. The most important information available is the history of accidents, the official, who did not want to be named.
He said: "We noticed that may people sell and buy cars without providing correct information about the vehicles, especially the history of accidents."
"The website is connected to a database in the Ministry of Interior and the Traffic of Abu Dhabi Police which provides all information about a vehicle as soon as you enter its chassis number," he said.
