Kills glassware to make up for Nürburgring losses
Lexus has released a new commercial which shows the LFA breaking a champagne flute.
Dubbed "Pitch," the commercial was filmed in a specially-designed audio studio with the LFA on a dynamometer. Once the car is started, the driver (Scott Pruett) accelerates past 170 mph as the exhaust note gets louder and louder. Eventually, the champagne flute vibrates to the point of breaking.
Despite appearances, Lexus promises the commercial was made "without the use of CGI or camera tricks." This meant the company had to employ "a renowned physicist from a leading university to help determine which type of champagne glasses have the same frequency as the LFA's revving engine."
As you may recall, Lexus has a long history of using champagne glasses in commercials. In 1989, the company introduced the LS by having a pyramid of glasses stay safely on the hood while the engine was revved. More recently, Lexus demonstrated the LS 460's parallel parking capabilities by having it reverse into a slot between two giant pyramids of champagne glasses.
