Volkswagen will unveil the sporty 2010 Golf R20 hatchback at its home country motor show which is now underway in Frankfurt, Germany.
This spirited little hatchback - to be called the Golf R in Europe - packs a punch with a 2.0-litre, 265 bhp turbocharged engine, which will give the car an estimated 0-100kph acceleration time of about six seconds.
The small yet powerful four-cylinder engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a dual clutch automatic transmission, with the latter being the faster thanks to its quick gearshifts.
Unlike the front wheel drive Golf, the R20 will feature All Wheel Drive (AWD) for maximum traction and performance.
To make the compact Golf look the part of a proper hot hatch, the R20 features LED lights, a revised front grille, a rear diffuser with centrally located dual tailpipes, super sized alloy wheels with low profile tyres and some interior tweaks.
The 2010 Golf R20 is expected to go on sale in Europe early next year in both three-door and five-door versions.
