More than 30,000 fake auto parts were destroyed after raids on two warehouses in the UAE.
Officials swooped on the Sharjah industrial area after reports of a trade in counterfeit goods. The parts in question were copies of goods by Bosch and other German brands. Bosch had worked with the Sharjah Municipality to combat the trade and said some of the fake products found were already packed and ready to be shipped to a neighbouring GCC country.
As well as breaching copyright laws, fake parts are usually of inferior quality and can adversely affect safety.
Volker Bischoff, the general manager of Robert Bosch Middle East, said: “In our bid to fight counterfeiting, we have been working closely with our service providers who regularly update us and the municipalities with information about potential counterfeiters. We believe that this successful raid in Sharjah will send a strong message to those involved in dealing with fake auto parts that the UAE Government will not show any leniency towards offenders.”
Bischoff said the counterfeiters had taken advantage of the Bosch name in promoting their goods, but continued: “In recent years we have introduced several measures to combat product piracy, most importantly the Bosch keySecure label.”
The new Bosch keySecure label – comprising a difficult to copy hologram and a unique 15-digit code - provides the aftermarket sector, workshops and ultimately the final customer with the assurance that the product inside the packaging is genuine.
