Yes exactly, it could be a vaccuum leak in the brake booster, most likely from the car washes..

Take a look-see under the hood. Old BMWs aren't so packed in there so you should be able to see if there's a loose vacuum pipe. It'd be under your intake...Have someone in the car pressing the brake pedal, might help you listen to the leak...

brake booster problem (including vaccum line) can be checked as follows
with the engine off put your foot on the brake pedal and turn on the engine.......if the pedal falls down this means the booster is working....if it is still hard and doesnot fall down this means something is faulty ...the booster itself (the internal diaphram or the hose from intake)
but wat u r saying doesnot seem like booster it seems like u have some bubbles in the system
HOW DOES THE PEDAL FEEL? SPONGY OR HARD?

u mentioned that it "leaks" when u stop the car
so what did u mean by leak? air or oil leak?

one of ur rubber brake lines is ripped and is leaking thats why you cant maintain the pressure in the brake system and hence the delayed brake response.... Make sure u bleed the system after changing that pipe :)
