    Car running rich?

What are the reasons behind a car running rich?
    Meskovic
this is as far as i understand (correct me if i am wrong) a public forum, where people share ideas on how to make the bmw lifestyle better and more pleasurable and enjoyable..where we benefit from others mistakes and learn from our own ,share experiences..all in a common goal to make everything and everyone better, not the opposite.. do i need to remind everyone of all the laughs we had and how many times we shared food and shisha together..how many times we all stayed up late to fix anothers friend (brother) issues?? This is what makes a community, us, people..a common understanding and fellowship..respect

    1. Agressive tune running high Air/Fuel ratios
    2. Bad spark plugs or coils.
    3. Cat delete.

But in ur case it might have something to do with the Ignition Cutt-off ur car is equipped with

Assuming no tuning has been done to the car, I can't think of "common" reasons. I can think of a bad MAF sensor to do that or clogged cats (as opposed to straight pipes). Clogged cats would cause exhaust gases to "pile up" at the exhaust valves; bad for your timing and AF ratio. In addition to what Bashar said, incomplete ignition caused by bad saprk plugs and/or coils.

But if it's done on purpose (tuned that is), then WOOHOO!!

hmmmm I will let Alex renner check it for me, my car is de cat and has ECU tunning, we are changing the spark plugs at the moment, I will have to check the air/fuel ratio

Running rich: increasing the amount of fuel sprayed into the combustion chamber for the same amount/temperature of air sucked in.

                Running lean: The opposite.

rich is also bad cos it causes the oil to wash off the cylinder walls. granted, combustion happens anyway, but ideally u want all the fuel that goes in to be burnt off, not escape unburnt. we all know what a good cleaner petrol is, so if there is too much, it will clean off the cylinder walls on the exhaust stroke.

too lean is bad-detonation!!! nuff said.

speak to goldilocks-not too much, not too little-just right :yippy:
