    Need PROFESSIONAL Advice

    ola everyone,

On a ride out with my folks, i was reminded of the E34(?) 525i lying in my house,

My folks had previously (without my knowledge ) decided to give the car away for free . .to someone needy, dude to the new rules from RTA- this car wont be roadworthy in another year.

And if not that - Scrap it.

Now i realised what was happening and asked them to put it on hold till i get some advice from you boys.

    The car is a 1989-1995 year E34 525i

    With an Automatic Transmission.

Here are a few pics of the car. It's been lying in the house for 3 years now, without regular usage, just a few rounds around the block to keep it running.

I was wondering if there is Any potential in the car to be turned into a track car, and even if there is? Is it worth it?
I mean, i wouldnt wanna just throw the car away!

I need your take on it guys.
    does it have ANY! potential??

    Cheers!
    Thanks

the E34 is from 1988 till 1995, but what year is your car in particular?

i don't think it's easy to convert this into a track car, specially that it's got an auto tranny.. if u wanna invest in a track car you'd better get an E36 IMO :)

Wasn't too specific on investing in one - just a thought, if we had one, could we turn it into a track car .

Rather than spending so much on this car, go for an E36 as Haissam said.
2.5L + an automatic trans + without any after market suspension kit would be very hard to push and control the car.

Well................... an E34 wouldnt be that competetive in the RLC tight Auto-X, but would be good on the Auto-sprint.

The Idea i have is if you want a fun (redline car), and a good track day car this would work 100%.

since this car is not regularly used i'd say do the following:

                    1. Strip out the interior, trunk, empty door pannels, and remove all carpets.
                    2. Convert to manual.
                    3. Blestien shocks (Gas valved), and H&R race springs.
                    4. decent set of tires with decent rims.

And you have a weekend fun car..............

A car that needs a Lil. maintanace, and you can beat it on the track all day long......

It's actually not an RTA ruling, it's from the ministry of interior....

But I do have a feeling that it was the RTA who "innocently proposed" it!!!

Well with the ratio on his Auto E34 he wont be needing an LSD in the beginning ;)

I mean why give the car away when you can use it, and learn racing it :D

It's not just the high ratio man!! It's alternating between the wheels while you're foot's at it! ;)

I know that, but for the perpose an LSD would be expensive........

Plus i rocommend to learn on a non-lsd bmw since its tricky to control.......
