    SMG question

    Hi all,

It's been a long time since I posted here.. hope everyone is ok.

Just bought a '06 M6 with a SMG problem. My question is what does it mean when the shifter is stuck just like when you try to shift whtout pressing the brake? keeping in mind that there is no SMG pump sound at all.

    Thanks in advance!

The SMG pump is dead. You can get it rebuilt.

I was waiting for you to responed :)

why would the smg pump lock the shifter? also, what parts does it need to rebuild the pump?

      Thanks Hasan.

The pump was just a guess. You should get the fault codes scanned to make sure what is the problem. It can be a number of things including the realy. I change the relay every year.

Was the car in gear or neutral when the shift lever got stuck.

        The part number is 23017841032.

I though there is a way to rebuild the one I have.

Actually I don't know... all I know is it is in N now with the shift lever being stuck. And when I try to start the engine, it tells me shift to Nutural.... while it shows it is in Nutural already!

I changed the relay already but no change. I was told it is the SMG unit... I am not convinced though! but the shift lever being stuck is confusing me.

I will get it scanned once I have an access to a GT1 or INPA.

It seems the car is stuck in gear. Its most likely your pump. The part number will give you the rebuild kit for the pump.

Then it's definitely not in gear. :)

Did you get the fault codes.

Many things can go wrong. On my previous E46 M3 I've had it stuck in 5th while driving and nothing could shift the SMG neither up or down. What I had was a faulty SMG Harness and had it replaced.

Hasan's first guess might be correct, but have the car checked by a professional and check the error fault codes, they should be indicative.

That is 100% related to your SMG Pump. It could be the actuator only.

Question, when was the last time you bled the system ?

SMG III has no actuator. I just bought the car and don't know if a bleed has been performed or not. I doubt it's a bleeding issue but thanks for the help.

Gave the pump direct electricity, it works! It seems the smg control unit isn't 100% operating.

Also, was checking the conector all around and suddenly the shift lever was released! but again it was locked.

It can be control unit. Or, maybe the pump is not generating enough pressure. Or perhaps the system is unable to hold the pressure. Its all guessing.

I would suggest you get it checked professionally.

                              Hello guys :)
                              Hydrolic unit: On period
This means the time period is to long for the presure to build up within the set limits thus meaning you possibly may have an internal leak within the pump
or the pump it self is week :(
either way you have to replace the pump, which comes in a kit form with a new motor and seal kit.
let me know if i can assits you :)
