    Z4M zero juice after 1wk vacation !??!?!

    hi all, quick question. after a 1 week vacation, i get back to my 2006 Z4M convertible, all excited to go for a spin and run a few errands but the car was completely dead. even the remote lock didn't work. i called axxa, got a boost .. by actually removing my battery .. then replacing it. i let the car run for about an hour .. driving it around and then when i turned it off .. again, absolutely dead. no lights, no nothing.

    what's the issue here ? the battery is less than 1 yr old .. so ??

    please let me know what you think.

    i guess it may be the alternator that charges the battery, it may be dead for some reason and not charging.

      Alternator.. That's a common problem for S54 engines..

                What are the chances that a rat has chewed on the wiring loom (during your week long holiday) creating a short circuit resulting in the battery drain?

                      You can check if the battery voltage with a simple multimeter. Check voltage across terminals is above 12V, say around 12.5-12.7V when off, and check again with engine on and the voltage should be higher to 13.7-14.1V if not in that range, then the alternator is not supplying enough juice. But I would take it to a petrol station and cheque amps, battery maybe not holding current, damaged cells etc. If the battery cheques out, then pay attention to the alternator. I believe that the OBC has a battery diagnostic as well....maybe look into that reading as well.
