    Steering loose- 1 Inch Play

    Hi Guys,
I hav a problem with my e46 2002, My sterring is too loose 1 inch play. WHen i am in high speed if a truck suddenly moves left i hav no immediate control of my car cause of play, So hence a safety issue.
So guys pls suggest possible solution, Before i go to a Garage.
    Regards

The steering rack might be your problem. Require replacing.

it could be one the 2 options mentioned above
              1- steering rack
              2- steering knuckle joint

look at your overall suspensions' condition.. im sure there are other components that have aged with the rack.

Hey Bud,go to your car and grab the streering wheel with your thumb and four finger and rock up and down with very little force without your engine running.
If the free play is there than its not your steering rack its your steering spindle shaft.
                    Replace spindle job done!
Let me know after your grab test?
