    Limited Slip Differential

    Hi Everyone

First of all, I didn't know where to post this, so I put it here.

Second, please forgive my lack of knowledge.

Now the question: What is a Limited Slip Differential?

What effect does it have on the drive of the car?

Does it work with the DSC?

    Looking forward to your replys.

    Thanks

      Dear SSense

Many thanks for the quick response and the link.

I believe I now have some idea of how the LSD works.

Which brings me to my next question.

Is it possible to have aN LSD installed in my Alpina B5.

Would you suggest that I gte it.

      Thanks Again

              Thanks guys.

I really appreciate the information and guidance that all of you have provided.

I am really interested in getting an LSD for my car.

However, I am not sure how to get one.

I have checked the Quaife web site, apparently they don't have a dealer in UAE. I have sent them an onloine inquiry.

              Does anyone have other ideas.

              Thanks

Msw is the dealer. Buy a used e60m5 diff and swap it with yours. But I'm not sure if it will hold the torque. What's your torque again?

Lol 700nm will probably fry it. The quaife sounds like a safer option.

Can you confirm if ur current alpina diff is the normal factory unit that comes on any 550 or 545?

What year is your car Hasan ? B8, E36, E39 and E46 Alpinas had the LSD as an option if the customers wanted it, it never came as a retrofit from the factory... However with that said, you have to confirm first if your car is equipped with an LSD or not, thats the question !

Bruno, Alpina had tested the M5 LSD to see if Alpina's 700Nm could withstand it, it blew after a few mins and the parts were returned to the ///M dept

The car is a 2006. I believe it does not have an LSD.

In addition, I have attached the technical data and the build options for the car. I translated most of it from the German version that they sent me. I am pretty usre that the LSD is not included there.

If its year 2006 then im sure your car doesnt have an LSD, cuz it still wasnt produced back then.. What you can do now is, see if you really want to install an LSD and then get in touch with Quaife, the new would cost you somewhere around £900..

BTW I wudnt install an LSD if I had an Alpina, why turn a street rocket to a track car plus you need an LSD on Alpinas in countries where it rains alot, here it doesnt..

                              Ok!

                              I get the point. :iagree:

                              Better keep it origional.

However, do you think I might be bale to get more freedom in drive if I turn on the DTC.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their time, information and most of all, the kindness with which everyone has reposnded to me.

                              Oceans of gratitude!
