I was messing around with the fuses to get my cd changer to eject the magazine. It did not help but the Active Steering warning light came up in the console. The steering became very hard as if there was no power steering. I switched off and on the car a couple of times, but that didn't help. I then checked online on various forums and tried this:
1. Turn the steering from lock to lock (left & right).
2. Center the steering.
3. Switch Off.
4. Switch On.
I was skeptical about this but it solved my problem and the steering is back to normal.
