Hi guys, I've had an M5 for the past 4 years now, and have only ever used the Castrol TWS oil, as, apparently, it's exclusively designed for M & Z engines. Now one of the guys @ Tony Edwards told me that you can also use Castrol Edge Sport oil. I noticed that it has exactly the same weight as the TWS, the only difference being the TWS has the letters SAE in front of the weight (I can't remember what the weight is). But I'm still not sure, I never compromise on my car so I just stick to the TWS. What do you experts say?

stick with TWS.... Edge sport lacks some shear resistance additives that TWS has already :)
they would recommend edge sport for it being cheaper and available....sigpic

plus on an M5 i would not think about swaping TWS for anything else.... Horror stories about rod bearing failures (check M5board.com)sigpic

They say TWS is out of market and hence Edge Sport has been replaced, i dont believe.. When TWS is widely available everywhere, i say stick to TWS, nothing can replace it, no Edge or Edge Sport.. BTW how often do you change your oil

You can check for it at any BMW spare parts shop, one of them should/will have it.. Price is somewhere around Dhs 55Comment

Well we have been using edge sport for the last 5+years and we haven't had any M5 "blow up" because of it.
I will put TWS for anyone that wants it as we always have it available

Actually TWS is about 72 dhms after 10% discount from AGMC, but I buy it from Model spare parts for about 65. It used to be 55, but it's gone up now. Not many shops have it btw. Even the Castrol shop at the Enoc petrol station behind MOE doesn't have it. They don't even know what it is! Shows how specialized they are!
