Advice: Leave your SMG on Neutral when parked!

I have noticed all of you putting your SMG in gear (1 or R) when parking and switching off the car. DONT!

Reason is very simple. One day your SMG would decide it's not a good day for a cruise and woops, can't move the car to put it on the flat bed. It will lock the drivetrain if put on gear and couldn't release the clutch.

Keep it in neutral to be safe. My $0.2...

If youre not in control of your clutch, play it safe !
Simple ! That's what they designed the hand-brake for anyways !

What if ur hand brake doesnt work ??!!

the thing is, since the SMG is based on an electronic gear selector its very hard to predict when its gonna jam.....

If ur battery went out.......Stuck in gear
        If u burned a relay............Stuck in gear
        Failing pump....................Stuck in gear

        You know the rest :)

this is as far as i understand (correct me if i am wrong) a public forum, where people share ideas on how to make the bmw lifestyle better and more pleasurable and enjoyable..where we benefit from others mistakes and learn from our own ,share experiences..all in a common goal to make everything and everyone better, not the opposite.. do i need to remind everyone of all the laughs we had and how many times we shared food and shisha together..how many times we all stayed up late to fix anothers friend (brother) issues?? This is what makes a community, us, people..a common understanding and fellowship..respect

I used to leave it on neutral, but few instances where i was parked on a slope, lifted the handbrake, got out of my car, to realise that my car is moving! lolll basically falling down! haha!
Thats when i started the 1st and reverse gear!

I always leave my SMG in neutral, but can someone please explain why, when you turn off the ingnition in neutral, the car insists on beeping like a madman? If it's a warning, what's it warning me about? If neutral is the correct gear to leave the car in, why don't i get the beeping sound when i turn off the engine in 1st? I wouldn't mind, but the beeping is pretty loud and really annoying!

You know what else get's me annoyed about the SMG? If you get the "start-up" process wrong (i.e. try and start the car in first, don't have your foot on the brake etc) you have to go back and start all over again, usually by removing the key. I'm never exactly wide awake when i start the car in the morning and i quite often get it wrong, and man does that wind me up!:censored::banghead:

I think it's a safety feature; to force you to look around before igniting the car as compared to just key ON and just leave. Could be wrong.

The beeping, I got used to it. I step out of the car and salm the door closed at the 3rd beep now :D
