    Help needed with repairs list...

Hi guys, i hope evryone is well and that the club continues to go from strength to strength.

I wonder if you can offer me some advice. I took my car to AGMC the other day for Inspection II and it seems that the car had not seen a major service (not counting oil service as major) for 40,000kms. The previous owner had run the car for 30,000kms without servicing and i have done around 10,000kms since i bought it. I should really have checked the history with AGMC when i bought the car but hey, i can't do anything about that now.

They have done the service, at a whopping 4,5000aed, and sent me the below quote for other works than need doing. I had anticipated that the car, because of the lack of service, might need some work, but 13,000dhs is ridiculous! :read: :omg2:

    So, assuming that AGMC are being honest with me on what needs repairing, my questions are these (baring in mind i don't want to shell out all this money right now!);

    (a) which of these works are absolutely required...i.e. which ones are likely to cause danger/major issues if they are not repaired

    (b) which of these items could go without repairing i.e AGMC are trying to get work that doesn't really need to be done. I'm thinking things like the windscreen wipers!

    (c) who do i contact at X Service to get a quote for this list of works?

    (d) what other garages are reputable enough to quote and carry out this type of work on an M3?

    (e) what is the RMFD Pump, costing me 3230dhs?

    (f) are Tony Edwards likely to quote me cheaper?

I'd appreciate any help or advice you guys can give.

    Thanks,

    Phil

Here's a list of jobs that should be done by them during Inspection II

      Inspection II
The Inspection 2 Service is the larger of the two Inspection Services and basically includes all of the items performed on the Inspection I Service along with some extras like differential oil change; fuel filter and air filter replacements; Replacement of spark plugs. Inspection 2 generally runs around $500+ to $800+. Below are the items that are normally performed. If you are performing the inspection yourself, We carry most of the BMW parts you need to complete the inspection and replacement of BMW parts. Click here for the Online BMW Parts Catalog. Don't forget to purchase the BMW service/oil change reset tool.

      Undercarriage
Change engine oil and filter oil while engine is at normal operation temperature.
      Check transmission for leaks.
      Check rear axle for leaks.
Visually check fuel tank, lines, and connections for leaks.
Check condition, position, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
Check power steering system for leaks.
Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads.
      Examine brake disc surfaces.
Clean brake pad contact points in calipers.
      Grease wheel center hubs.
Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage, and joint disc.
Check front control arm bushing for wear.
Check brake and clutch system connectors and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning.
Check for free movement of the parking brake cables. Adjust parking brake if necessary.
Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary.
Check condition of tires (outer surfaces (left/right)), tread wear and pattern; In case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if required.
Check thickness of parking brake linings.
Half-shafts; check for leaks at flexible boots.
Inspect entire body according to terms of rust prevention limited warranty.

      Engine Compartment
      Read out diagnostic system
Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks.
Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Check level of brake and clutch fluid in reservoir; add fluid if required.
Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary.
      Check air conditioner for operation.
      Reset Service Indicator.
      Replace spark plugs.
      Replace intake air cleaner element.

      Body/Electrical Equipment
Check battery electrolyte level and add distilled water if required.
      Perform batter load test.
Check lighting system, i.e. headlights, foglights, parking, backup, license plate, interior (including map reading lights), glove box, flashlight, illuminated makeup mirrors, luggage compartment lights.

Grease hood, trunk/tailgate and door latches. Check operation of all latches.
      Check central locking/double lock.
Replace microfilter or Acc Cabin Filter.
Check heater/air conditioner blower, rear window defogger.
      Check rear view mirrors
Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn cover, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations, or accessories.

      Final Inspection

if you take a 2009 320 to AGMC they will come back with a huge bunch of parts to be replaced. let another workshop have a look at it, it's worth it in your case.

do it at X they can't go wrong on your car.

It seems like most of the things they mentioned are related to the cooling system. Do you find the temperature of the car rising and do you have to top up the coolant fluid all the time?

No, and No! I do keep an eye on the temperature needle and i've never noticed it moving really (other than when it warms up to running temperature when i first drive it).

Thanks for your help guys. I am going to take the car, with BMW quote in hand, to X Service on the weekend and ask them to give it an inspection and provide me with a quote based on (a) the AGMC list of recommended repairs and (b) a quote based on what they think needs doing.

Fingers crossed it'll be a lot less than 13,000dhs!

WOW... that is an exhaustive list! I shudder to think about what they are going to tell me about my car when I have to take it in. KNowing the situation and having the reliability and trust of X-Service, I don't hesitate for a moment to take it to X and not AGMC...

Hopefully my baby will be alright, inshallah. Good luck Phil and keep us posted please

An RMFD Pump is the Power Steering Pump...Do you have a whine noise in the car when driving? Is your steering heavy?

That's a VERY steep quotation. AED13,000 has done "wonders" to my car in terms of maintenance and modding!!!!

I've just been having another look at my repairs list, specifically at what i guess is the labour charge. There's something i don't get. Based on the information below, i assume that 28ead is the standard charge to undertake a simple task. But do i really have 27 water pumps? And 21 thermostats? Why are they charging me to drain the coolant and refill the rediator 5 times?

                  - 27 water pumps at 28ead each.

                  - 5 Draining coolant and filling at radiator at 28aed each

                  - 21 cooling thermostats at 28ead each

                  - 8 fan clutches at 28aed each

                  - 8 coolant hoses at 28ead each

                  - 13 coolant temperature sensor at 28aed each

                  - 9 alternator drive belt tensioner at 28aed each

                  - 23 engine mounts at 28aed each

                  - 16 control arm rubber mounts at 28aed each

                  - 7 exhaust mounts at 28aed each

                  - 5 power steering pressure hose at 28aed each

None of the parts numbers correlate with this list i.e. they are buying 1 thermostat at 360aed but charging me 21 times at 28aed to fit it? Am i missing something or is this all a bit strange?

                  Cheers!

Maybe it's a computer glitch......It doesn't make sense, maybe they're just fooling the system to achieve the subtotal.
