Engine Oil for BMW 320i E90 Castrol Edge vs Mobil1

    Hello Friends,

MY car needs servicing and after 10,000KM its time for engine oil and oil filter change. I'm a personal fan of Castrol Edge but heard alot good about Mobil 1 lately and wont mind giving it a shot. But is it worth it. I have lost the owner manual of car but i was thinking that 5W30 or 5W40 will be fine. Or should i go for 0W30/0W40??

I have a 2008 BMW 320i E90. Any recommendations will be very handy.

Also which service centre is better Munich Motors or X-Service??

    Thanks alot.

First of all, to the forum.

As for engine oil, 5W30 is what is being used here for quite sometime now. 0W40 is for maximum protection due to the oil being thicker but it will reduce the km/L rate. I would suggest Castrol (Edge/Edge Sport) Fully Synthetic Oil 5W30 to be changed every 10,000kms.

Castrol are one of the best BMW Compatible Oils

    Good Luck

      Hello Rifo,

Thanks alot for your quick reply and the warm welcome, much appreciated. Castrol Edge 5w30 is of BMW Longlife-04 standard and not BMW long life-01, according to their website. http://castroledge.com/oil-range/

BMW recommends that "Longlife-04 oils must not be used in BMW spark-ignition engines in countries outside Europe". LongLife-04 compatible oils are to be used for all Diesel engines and petrol engines only inside Europe as they have less sulphur contents in their fuel.

So any word on that, I mean is there a Castrol Edge which meets BMW LongLife-01 standard and not LL-04? Or a Mobil 1 Engine Oil for that matter?

      Thanks

Castrol EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4 | Features and Recommended Engines | Castrol EDGE

Castrol EDGE 0W40 is BMW Longlife-01 Oil.

It's a debatable and never ending issue. If you want more km/L then go for the 5W30 but will slightly reduce the age of your engine with time. If you want to make sure you're maximizing the age of your engine then use 0W40 at the cost of lower km/L.

          Thanks alot Rifo,

So I feel 0w30 or 0w40 will be a better bet. My daily traveling is around 100KM. I think this will suffice to my needs.

What are your thoughts about STP fuel system Cleaner or Fuel injector Cleaner? I couldnt find a better brand than STP.
And Service Centre .. X-Service or Munich Motors?

Thanks a million for your time mate.

i am using Liqui Moly 5w40, have used before Mobil and Castrol but don't trust these brands anymore here as is full of fakes and Chinese replicas, LM is only made in Germany and for the last two years i have been really satisfied with their products. Have used their oils on a variety of cars and have also used their oil application for the gearbox and i couldn't be happier, it is a very good balance between quality and price. Check their website and read the TB and you'll see they're at least as good as the other "famous" brands and on top of that you have peace of mind that it is indeed made only in Germany where rules are still rules and do not allow fakes as they do here. If you want an even better oil go for Motul or Redline, but unfortunately these are very hard to be found here.

              Hi mik15,
Couldnt agree more with you bro, as I was also looking for the German Castrol. If I get it I will definitely share with you the details. And yes I couldnt find Redline here anywhere yet.
              Cheers.

IMHO! M1 0W-40 is the best engine oils availble in the market.

Overall, M1 oils have a better additive package than Castrol oils.

Castrol oils sold on the middle east are produced from used oil that is purified again.

                  Hi hasan,
You mean Castrol oil that's available in the market is being produced locally?
                  Is M1 0w40 a LL-01 oil?
I talked to Munich motors lately and they confirmed that they recommend M1 for all BMW non-M cars. For M cars they recommend Castrol Edge.
                  Thanks for your reply.
                  Cheers

Hi Guys, I am new to this forum.

I have a 2009 330i and wanted to change the engine mounts as well as the trans mount as it is due to change now. Which garage do you guys recommend me going to which is not that expensive as well.

I heard of a garage called Energy Garage or something like that, is it good?
