Stupid Stereo!!!

Last night, excited about listening to the new tunes in the car, I jumped in and found out the stupid stereo isn't working :censored: the red light at the top left hand corner is off but no sound is coming out. Can't even click it on or off. I even tried tuning in the tv... got the picture but no sound.

Any ideas guys... I think it might be a fuse, didn't get the chance to check it out but thought I'd ask if anyone knows what's up. This happened once before... left the car for an hour or so and then it magically worked again...

In thsi case it could be a bad amplifier or a bad connection, various reasons to point at. But to start with the basics, take off the fuses and push them back in, reboot recommended, hopefully the sound should work.

Here's a way to reset the DSP, radio, CD, SatNav voice etc

(1) Insert key but do not turn on ignition
(2) Turn on headlights (don't ask but it works!)
(3) Disconnect battery
(4) Remove fuses no. 7 and no. 41 from holder in glovebox
(5) Wait 5 minutes
(6) Reconnect battery & plug fuses back in

Voila! The DSP, radio, CD, SatNav voice etc. are all restored

a similar issue happened to my 05' X5 1 year ago the video tuner was shot. can you still listen to CDs?

The Sat Nav, TV (no sound), and computer still works. The radio/CD does not even switch on.

yeah that's what happened to mine exactly Adam... I just removed fuse no. 41 and replaced it... everything went back to normal. It happened to me a couple of times and I just repeat the procedure :) Let me know if u need any help... u live right next to where I work

Actually it may have been a prelude to the real problem as my battery is now flat. I'm not sure if the issues are related or not.

Any idea of the best place to grab a replacement battery?
