Cleaned MAF... WOW! - GB Anyone?

    Cleaned MAF, replaced filter.. WOW!
I highly recommend changing your airfilter together with cleaning your MAF guys especially if it has been a while since you last did it..
Car pulls much harder now with a perfect idle after i replaced my SE filter with OEM paper and cleaned my MAF., i kid you not at least 15-20% gain in power.. Total cost 29 dollars!!
OEM paper filter $15, temper resistant star bit set $9 ( you need size T20 only but they had it as a set in autozone), CRC electrical parts cleaner $5.. Best 30 bucks i ever spent!!!..

p.s: I am not saying SE filter messes up MAF.. In my case it has been 10K miles since i put it in.. !!

    Impressed!!
i had my doubt that cleaning MAF will make any difference as far as performance wise - esp with my M since it's fairly new and only 12K miles. but curiosity got the best of me so i got a can of CRC MAF cleaner and spray the living day lights out of my MAF - BAMM!! what the?? i can't believe the difference. it is like driving with sports bottom on. throttle response is much quicker and you can actually feel the power gain. no freaking way this works but it does!!!! thanks for the heads up post. there is another similar post on cleaning the MAF early last year. very very useful tip

from now on i will clean MAF every time i change oil - a must in my book. here is couple pics

4-10 hp gain? you think i am a chump? ... or maybe it really works? ...it does dude don't get the cheap torx set from Autozone. the hole in the center is not even in line. i had to enlarge it and it still does not fit right. get the good security torx T-20 from other store like the hexagon torx bit shown on right

Seems that the guys from US were very impressed by the simple cleaning of the MAF using CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner .

I've been searching for it in Dubai (Ace Hardware and others) but unsuccessful so far.

Anyone knows whether the spray is available somewhere?

If not I'm (or anyone else) willing to do a GB for this product
    http://www.autobarn.net/maairflsecl1.html
just to compensate the high shipping cost.

The good part is that they ship to UAE but the bad part is the cost: $70 shipping where the product is $6.49.

So it would make sense to get more items if it gets shipped.

I've been planning to get it on my own but if someone else is interested would be helpful in sharing cost while getting the same end product.

Maybe with Ayhan's or Bruno's help we can have this done easily.

A simple CRC electronic cleaner will do the trick ;)

Also for better results use Alcohol absolute (99% alcohol)...

What Bashar said, any alcohol solution will do the trick. There are 3-4 CRC electronics cleaners in the market, some of them are very abrasive (oil field tools). Be sure to tell the seller the application you want it for.

I wouldn't clean MAF's if they're still fairly new. And when I do clean them, it's time to order new ones cause they don't usualy last long after cleaning.

^^^haha ill leave the beasty thinggy for ur M5 ;)

you mean clean it??? most of us have only one MAF, and i do it when ever i have my intake out of the car.....

A simple splash of absolute alcohol and leaving the MAF to dry out will do wonders every now and then.

this is as far as i understand (correct me if i am wrong) a public forum, where people share ideas on how to make the bmw lifestyle better and more pleasurable and enjoyable..where we benefit from others mistakes and learn from our own ,share experiences..all in a common goal to make everything and everyone better, not the opposite.. do i need to remind everyone of all the laughs we had and how many times we shared food and shisha together..how many times we all stayed up late to fix anothers friend (brother) issues?? This is what makes a community, us, people..a common understanding and fellowship..respect

Wazif, from what I've read there are no side effects provided you use the right stuff, as for the cleaning process (you have it at the link in my first post with pics and steps) 2 screws, take out, spray, put back.

I've checked the CRC Electronic cleaner vs. MAF Cleaner and although they're in the same cat. they're not identical

Ayham, I'd rather wait until I get the right thing than take any chances.

That's what I've read also, cleaning shouldn't impact the sensor's life in a negative way.
