New M Performance Exhaust for BMW M3

BMW today announced a new M Performance exhaust system specifically designed as an accessory for the BMW M3 Coupe, Sedan and Convertible. With the racetrack and the street in mind, this new exhaust system is crafted from an extremely heat-resistant and lightweight chrome-nickel alloy called Inconel®. This flow optimized exhaust system reduces exhaust backpressure and allows the M3’s 414 horsepower V8 engine to produce an even more powerful sound.

Inconel’s unique qualities allowed engineers to reduce the thickness of the tubing from 1.5mm to 0.8mm. This resulted in a weight reduction of approximately 40%, or about 20 lbs. when compared to the stock exhaust system. Inconel has also proven to be very corrosion resistant and has been used at the highest level of Motorsports.

The M Performance Exhaust includes perforated inner pipes and polished titanium tips, which are laser engraved with the M logo. It represents the ultimate in technology and sportiness, accentuating the individual character of the BMW M3. The exhaust was developed using state-of-the art CAD and FEM technology ensuring optimum fit and OEM quality.

The new exhaust may be installed at any Authorized BMW Center at a price of $4,374 plus installation. M Performance parts are warranted for the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period when the installation occurs before the first delivery of a new vehicle. If the M Performance parts installation occurs after the first delivery, the accessory will be warranted for the balance of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period or two years and unlimited mileage from the date of installation, whichever one is greater.

BMW's really stepping up the game with materials. Price isn't bad either, but let's see when it gets to UAE. Sounds good too!

Exhaust only improves the sound, unless you remove the cats or change the headers.

A cat back system will not give any HP gains. At least not enough for the buttometer to register.

proper exhaust system setup will end of gaining HP (not high) but for me.....i dont care about the HP gaining coz if the sound is just correct i ll feel the car is powerful :D

That is the trick to most exhaust systems! They give you a number of claimed HP gains and use the sound to back it up.

But, a better flowing exhaust system helps in the upper RPM range with hosrepower and a system designed for improved torque will yield better torque around the lower rev range. Better exhaust scavenging and optimum back pressure do make a difference.

To have both in large numbers over factory though, is almost impossible. That's just how engines work.

In short, an exhaust system that claims 30HP and 30NM over factory is bullcrap unless the OEM system was made out of tin cans zip tied together! An M car already has a good exhaust system that's tuned for daily use with a balance of usable torque and HP so it will not have that magical claim of a zillion horse and torques upgrade.

They call it M Performance exhaust for a reason which is obviously to improve performance as well as give a sportier note so there should be some hp gain but i think its too low so they didn't wanna advertise it and decided to stress more on the sound gains.
