I'm not such a fan of the BMW Supercar idea, the whole answer to the Audi R8 etc.
Sports cars is there realm.
But, that doesn't mean they can't do it or don't know how.
Lest we forget the nuclear reactor powering the McLaren F1.

The new supercar should have 550 bhp as mentioned by the OP
