6 BMW M3s to take on Audi and Mercedes in 2012 DTM
Good news:-
BMW is headed back to DTM racing with the BMW M3 DTM and has announced the three teams which will be taking two M3s each into the 2012 season.
BMW Motorsport won't be racing the car themselves, but instead will be partnering with BMW Team RBM, BMW Team Schnitzer and Reinhold Motorsport GmbH. BMW Motorsport has worked with the RBM and Schnitzer teams in the past and has welcomed newcomer Reinhold Motorsport into the fold. Each team will race two M3 DTMs.
Said Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director, in the press release:
"In recent months we have worked very intensely on the DTM project...The concepts presented by BMW Team RBM, BMW Team Schnitzer and Reinhold Motorsport GmbH ultimately convinced us. This is an excellent team line-up for BMW...We are looking forward to cooperating over the coming years - and hope to enjoy great success together."
Development on the car is still ongoing as BMW Motorsport readies the racer for the 2012 DTM season. For 2011, BMW Team Schnitzer will race two BMW M3 GT cars at several major endurance races in Asia and Europe.
