2010 BMW Z4 Unveiled in Detroit Auto Show

BMW has premiered the new Z4 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. And it promises simply...more, more, more.

Gone is the much celebrated 3.2 liter inline six-cylinder with 343 hp. But BMW claims what replaces the S54B32 engine will be even better.

The latest Z4 will initially come with two naturally aspirated 3.0 liter engines. The first produces 300 hp for the Z4 sDrive35i with 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of cranking power. The second dials it down to 255 hp with 220 lb-ft (298 Nm) of torque for the Z4 sDrive30i.

The sDrive35i offers an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which will take the Z4 from 0 to 60mph (96km/h) in 5 seconds flat. Standard on both models will be the 6-speed sport automatic.

BMW claims its EfficientDynamics technologies will provide unparalleled efficiency and performance and it's got a novel in the form of a press release detailing all of the bells and whistles that will make this Z4 better than the last one. But just having a look at the LED-highlighted design architecture of the Z4 body is a good start in believing.

the front needs an M bumper & a blacked-out grill! but we need the Coupe version!

I doubt they will come out with a coupe version due to this being a hardtop convertible, and Z4 sales aren't that great usually... but who knows

I like the color combination of the blue exterior and tan brown interior one... the rims are gorgeous, exact copies of the RS4... but beauty is beauty!

2009 BMW Z4 - out in the open

We are less than two months away from the moment the new Z4 goes on sale, so we should see more photos of the car just being driven around town. After seeing the multitude of photos and videos, reading plenty of reviews and learning about the options or colors offered in the Z4, we need to get our hands on some pricing information.

German pricing has already been announced, but as usual, the U.S. market is the last one to do so. The basic model offered in the U.S., the BMW Z4 sDrive 30i (258 bhp) sells in Germany for 42,900 - euros or the equivalent of 57,445 USD. The high end sDrive 35i (306 bhp) goes for 47,450 - euros or 63,537 USD. Fairly high prices when compared to the previous generation E85 Z4, but historically, the U.S pricing was much lower, so we expect them to be somewhere in the $40,000 range.

Looking at the photos taken by Palbay, the Z4 looks amazing even outside the showroom, very aggressive, road presence and it certainly stands out. Order it in the Crimson Red or Deep Sea Blue paint and heads will turn.
