    A1GP is for sale - the whole lot. Got a spare $15m?

    A1GP for sale

    All the cars, parts, support vehicles, bits and pieces and even the fax machine and, we suspect, the kitchen sink, that used to be part of the A1 GP series is up for sale.

    A1GP, the single make race series that was hailed as the ‘world cup of motorsport’ was the brainchild of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum of Dubai, who successfully founded and inaugurated the series in 2005. He sold up a year later, satisfied with the success of the first season, but it’s all gone a bit awry since then.

    After four seasons, the last of which saw the grid powered by Ferrari engines in new chassis based on the 2004 Ferrari F1 racer, the fifth season failed to take place after being cancelled five days before the practice for the first race. Ferrari pulled out of supporting the series after being owed $2m in unpaid bills, and teams started falling into receivership starting with the A1 Team GBR in March 2009.

    A1 Grand Prix Operations Ltd went into liquidation in June 2009. GoIndustry DoveBird has been appointed to handle the sale of the assets, every single one of which is now listed on their website. And there's some real mouth-watering stuff there.

    Apparently they’re looking for around $15m for the kit and caboodle including the latest Ferrari engined single seater race cars from 2008, the earlier Lola cars from 2005 and all the support equipment including a Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT four-door and a Ferrari 599GTB safety car.

    They are looking for bidders to either go for the entire package or substantial groups of assets therein – so, no, you can’t just bid for the Ferrari 599GTB!

    The package:

    Formula race cars powered By Ferrari

    * Twenty Ferrari engined single seat race cars, built in 2008 based on the F2004 Formula One Ferrari designed by Rory Byrne, Ross Brawn and Aldo Costa for the 2004 Formula One season, when Michael Schumacher became world champion.
    * Spare engines (yes that's spare Ferrari engines!), original body moulds, wind tunnel models and other miscellaneous spare parts.

    Lola Formula race cars

    * Fourteen single seat race car rolling chassis, built 2005. Lola B05/52 was the spec car used the by the series from the 2005–06 season to the 2007–08 season. It was powered by a Zytek engine and the former chassis is now used in the Euro Formula 3000 series, starting in 2009.
    * Numerous spare parts.

    Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT Semi-Auto 4 Door and Ferrari 599GTB Semi-Auto Coupe safety and medical cars

    Miscellaneous support equipment including

    * 25 team shacks, tyre shack, spares shack, 80 flight cases, pit perches and car racks
    * Wheels, tyres, support and transport racks

    Sounds like a great opportunity for someone in the Middle East looking to kick off a local race series - it would be a case of A1GP coming home!
