    S50 B30 engine... have few questions

    I wanted a 2.5 s14 engine but I’ve changed my mind for various reasons and on Monday I might be going with an s50 swap instead of the M20 that I currently have now.


    I wish to remain in the 3M class as shown in the below pic





    2990cc will keep in the 3M class in RLC next season which is exactly what I’m looking for, so having a strong naturally aspirated B30 powerplant is my goal at this stage I have other plans for the weight and balance of the car so let’s not worry about that now.

    So my questions are as follows:

    how much is this reachable HP gain on an NA motor?
    How reliable is this engine in the first place?

    VERY reliable, just work on the oil restrictor valve (Bashar has experience here). Regarding power, how much are you willing to spend? Cams, high-compression pistons with forged conrods and balanced edged cranckshaft, and uprated valvetrain will get you there with an aggressive remap. I've read about some race cars with the same platform pumping up to 380BHP NA. Scary!

    Btw, doing anything in accordance to Redline Challenge is simply useless. Trust me on this one, something major is at the end of the pipeline. Screw Redline Challenge, they should accomodate the cars WE have, not us doing the same for the cars they want!

      S50's are just like M50's. Bullet proof !
      Theres also a couple of things I'd add to the list, belt pulleys and a UUC Lightweight flywheel + M5 clutch. With some of the mods listed above you've got a serious engine !!

        this is what i wanted to hear, if io wanted a bigger engine i woul've just went with the 3.2 but i want to keep things balanced, i'm going to see a mechanic and a 2.5 s14 if i like it i will buy if not buy mid next week i'll go with a 3.0 engine and get this issue resolved.

          Make sure to get some lightweight panels while youre there.

            for the s14 dogleg for the 3.0 i'm not sure which is better the 5mt or 6mt

              The 6-spd has more flexible ratios but more shifting to be done versus the 5-spd.
              Bashar used to stay in 1st most AutoX session and 2nd during autosprint.

                  i know that i'm confusing the $hit out of you... listen to this.

                  i went to this place today, very professional m specialist mechanic etc... he has several engines laying around, of course no s14s.

                  so they showed me an s50 B30 engine, it was scattered into pieces all over the desk, they are rebuilding the engine and installing new 86mm forged cp pistons and schrick cams shall i proceed with their offer? he gave me a good rate for the swap... it will take them a week to complete the swap and install all the OEM brackets and mountings necessary for the parts to sit in their allocated position. no fabrication and BS required.

                  what say you BEEEBOL?!!

                        Headers won't add much to the Euro "S" engines.

                        And what do you mean add a chip?! U're changing the cams for Pete's sake...It's standard!

                          Check their engines on other cars to make sure. And why is the one your'e taking in piece in the first place ?
                          Do they have an engine dyno ?
                          If your'e going with Schricks then youve got to chip it.

                            if the price is good, the mechanic is trustworthy, then what the ell are yu doing on the forums!!! go and do it!

                            this is as far as i understand (correct me if i am wrong) a public forum, where people share ideas on how to make the bmw lifestyle better and more pleasurable and enjoyable..where we benefit from others mistakes and learn from our own ,share experiences..all in a common goal to make everything and everyone better, not the opposite.. do i need to remind everyone of all the laughs we had and how many times we shared food and shisha together..how many times we all stayed up late to fix anothers friend (brother) issues??
