    BMW 2 series - OFFICIAL

Following yesterday’s leaked images and ahead of its public debut at Detroit 2014 in January, BMW has revealed its 1 Series replacement: the 2 Series Coupe. In the US, buyers will get the 228i, priced at $32,100, and the M235i, priced at $43,100. The performance specs of the M235i have been confirmed as 322 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, with 0-60 mph timed at 4.8 seconds when mated to the 8-speed auto, and a top speed limited to 155 mph. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six also comes mated to a six-speed manual, returning up to 25 mpg on the combined cycle.

While not quite an M car, it can boast an adaptive suspension, upgraded brakes and variable steering, as well as a specially-tuned exhaust. The same transmissions are offered in the 228i, which comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph is a claimed 5.4 seconds and top speed at 130 mph. Economy is up to 27 mpg combined. Both models come with the Driving Experience Control, enabling drivers to switch between different modes that adjust suspension, throttle, steering, transmission and engine settings. In Europe, the 2 Series will also come with a 184-hp turbo-four gasoline 220i, and a choice of three turbo-four diesels.

The 2-Series is longer and wider than its predecessor for a more accommodating cabin and larger trunk. It comes with a distinctive face and unique grille, bespoke headlights, L-shaped taillights, and an upward sweeping character line. When equipped with the Sport Line trim, the 228i gets 18-inch alloys, a blacked-out grille and rear apron, front fascia air intakes and more interior trim choices. The M Sport package retunes the suspension, lowers the car by 10mm, adds an aggressive body kit, a special kidney grille and 18-inch lightweight alloys. Inside, buyers get sports seats and M Sport-specific trims, while options include M Sport Braking and Adaptive M suspension.
