The G80 M3 has been seen going through rigorous testing on the ring. Here's what we know about it so far:-- Starts production in 2020 (more likely later in the year).
- Three performance levels: 444hp (Pure), 475hp ("base"), and 500hp (Competition).
- Some versions will have RWD, others xDrive; both manual and automatic transmissions will be available. The reports that it will be Pure+manual+RWD, base+auto+xDrive, and Competition+auto+xDrive seem plausible but I don't yet want to claim that no other combos will be available.
- Pure and base will have 18" front and 19" rear wheels; Competition will have 19"/20" as standard (optional on the other models).
- Standard equipment for all models will include M diff, adaptive suspension, M seats, Live dashboard.
- Optional equipment will be pretty much the same as the regular G20, with the notable additions of carbon ceramic brakes (possibly not available on Pure), carbon bucket seats (likely not in the U.S.) and of course Merino leather, including full leather interiors.
- the G80 M3 and G82 M4 will share the same front ends with larger and taller kidney grilles
- Debuts September at 2020 Frankfurt Auto Show
- BMW M CEO confirms that G80 M3 / G82 M4 will come in auto, manual, AWD and RWD and that the manual version will be RWD-only.

when talking about performance, the new generation of the M3/M4 will be phenomenal and will have the best in class numbers. The new S58 engine even as a lot of tuning potential as alot of its main components are forged. So its going to be very interesting to see how wild individuals will go with the tuning, and to see what cars its going to be able to keep up with an potentially be faster than. Looks of the front especially with that terrible grill really affect this generation of the M3/M4. Can it affect sales? That is a big question that might actually be proven true, and put a big negative point on the potential of this generation. No one knows why BMW did this, and what motivated them to produce such a controversial design in the first place, but at the end of the day, as purists, we are still getting the performance we are craving, but not the looks.
